SAI Hydraulics is the U.S. subsidiary of SAI SpA, Modena, Italy, one of the World's leading manufacturers of Radial Piston Hydraulic Motors.We offer sales, service, spares and application advice relating to the SAI hydraulic motor range together with ancillary items such as brakes, valves and gearboxes.
Our specialist knowledge, gained over many years of different applications, coupled to an extensive and flexible product range enables us to offer hydraulic motors, which are exactly suited to each application requirement.
The SAI Motor is of the eccentric crankshaft design with many exclusive features including:
Swivelling Cylinder - This enables the cylinder to remain aligned with the eccentric of the crank, thus eliminating any side loading between the piston and cylinder.
Double Piston Support Bearing - The pistons transmit their load to to the shaft via a hydrostatic bearing which reduces metal to metal contact, and a central roller bearing which minimises the sliding velocity between piston and the spherical support ring.
Piston Retaining Rings - These ensure that the piston remains in contact with the shaft under all operating conditions, including in cavitation.
Axial Flow Rotary Distributor - This ensures that the oil is distributed to the pistons with high efficiency due to short, large section oil paths. Many different distributor options can be fitted to any of the range of motors.
These design features enable the SAI Motor to offer many benefits including high mechanical and volumetric efficiency, high starting torque, good slow speed running characteristics, together with tolerance of contamination, thermal shock and cavitation.
Industry Applications for SAI Hydraulics Products
Applications include many winch type operations such as net hauling winches, constant tensioning drives, heave compensation drives, anchor winches and capstan drives. SAI motors are also used on hatch cover drives, fish pumps, steering and thruster drives and propeller drives. |

Applications include plastic and rubber injection moulding machinery, printing machinery, steel working plant, concrete making machinery, pipe tightening machines and conveyor drives |
Industrial |
SAI motors can be supplied without any bronze components making them very suitable for running on oil/water emulsions and other fire resistant fluids. Applications include the specially designed skid steer loader shown. |

The first ever SAI motor was used in an agricultural application and today they are used to drive tractors, excavators, golf course maintenance vehicles, harvesting equipment and crop sprayers. |

GM series motors are a result of the many years' of experience gained with the preceding M, L and P series motors, and incorporate a number of design variations with respect to these series intended to increase the strength of the motor casings and the load capacity of the internal dynamic components. The result is a series of motors with high continuous power ratings, both because of the reduced internal specific loads and because of the high mechanical and volumetric efficiency that contribute in reducing the amount of heat produced and therefore also the negative effects associated with it.

Environmentally Friendly Applications
The motors have very high volumetric efficiencies in all operating conditions (typically>99%). The seal design used throughout the motors ensures that the volumetric efficiency is not affected if component become worn with use. The combination of high volumetric and mechanical efficiencies means that the motors generate less heat enabling smaller heat exchangers to be installed or, in certain cases, enabling then to be completely eliminated.
